Drop, Drop Slow Tears
Drop, drop, slow tears,
And bathe those beauteous feet,
Which brought from Heav’n
The news and Prince of Peace.
Cease not, wet eyes,
His mercies to entreat;
To cry for vengeance:
Sin doth never cease.
In your deep floods
Drown all my faults and fears;
Nor let His eye see
Sin, but through my tears.
[*No, I did not write this.]

An Evening with the Giauques
Me (explaining to nephew): A palindrome is a word or phrase that's spelled the same backwards and forwards
Someone else: Like "canal."

You guys should be friends with us
me: I've been letting my room get really messy so I can clean it as a reward when I finish my paper.
so I'm really hurrying
...cause I'm a geek. but my room is really dirty
Andy: I've been doing something similar. tonight, I'm cleaning my WHOLE DAMN HOUSE
I'm gonna go buy a mop and everything.
me: wheee!
Andy: we can have a cleaning party and I'll come help you with yours!

There's no time for hatred
We all know that Cold starts tomorrow, and we're all wetting our pants about it cause that's all there is to do in this town, and I admit I am no exception. I've been planning tomorrow's outfit all day, except I still have no idea what it's going to be. I've invested more thought in that topic tonight than in homework and have nothing in either category to show for it. That's okay. It'll be an outfit surprise and tomorrow will be homework-ly busy. (I accidentally typed "busty." Heh.)
Hey guys. Stop being obsessed with Etsy and telling me to buy your homemade gluey craft crap when you're not good at making anything and you're just making ugly accessories that I'm sick of seeing anyway. (That wasn't directed at anyone who reads this blog...as far as I'm aware.) Bah! Humbug!
I really really like this child:

She kind of makes my day. All the time. She's seriously an adorable spaz and I encourage any and all of you to get to know her.
That is all.

It's too late to be doing this
Guys, I just beat my old #10 score in Tetris. It's been a while since I've done that.
Would you all read a magazine article about simple ways to set up, and subsequently keep a monetary budget?
I don't think I would either, but I'm writing one. I'm trying to think of ways to make it sound like something that anyone would want to read. (That's why I'm playing Tetris...it helps me think.)
So, think about it. If you had to read an article about budgeting, first of all: would you?, and second: wait, this sentence is completely faulty. Just tell me what you think should be included/omitted in such an article. It would help me out, and also I'm just curious about what other people think.
...I'm tired.

I got too much to say for it to be important
See, I want to be stylish and also pretty. Those are things you're born with though, right?
So what you see is what you get, ladies and gentlemen. Take or leave. Even borderline frumpy, shy girls have some awesomeness and cuddliness to offer. I just don't want to turn into something you'd see on peopleofwalmart.com. Watch me. I can at least not get to that point. Unless said people are happy with they way they are. More power to them, in that case. I say, wear leopard print anything that's three sizes too small. I wouldn't wanna look at ya, but as long as you're happy. Good.
My lotion smells good though. That's one thing I can control. It smells like a fuzzy fall sweater. Mmm, fall.
If you live in the same town as I do, and you hate 98% of things in said town as much as I do, just look at the freaking mountains right now. They've got a layer of green, mossy trees all over, with fiery red accents that you couldn't make up. It gives a person some grounding and a reminder that all's not lost.
There are some decent people in this town. I love it, but I'm ready to be gone. Too much has happened.
A definite plus, this is coming back into my life within the next month or so:

American Airlines
It only makes sense that the employees of airlines would have to go to staff meetings periodically.
I wonder if American Airlines employees get a kick out of telling their families they're going to an AA meeting. I bet the families get really sick of that joke.

Mother of Days
If you are a woman and you are married, read the following. If you're neither or only one of the two, I don't care, do whatever you want.
If you want to know how well your husband really knows you, talk to retail workers the day before Mothers' Day.
For me, the day before Mothers' Day means busy work days, where the store is filled with wide-eyed, desperate men looking for a woman--any woman--who will tell them what their wives want. And they will believe that woman no matter what she says. As one such woman, I try to get a sense of the wives' personality, general likes, interests...
This is where it gets interesting. Most men have no idea what their wives would want. There are varying degrees of embarrassment, from the man barely knowing his wife's name, to the attentive ones who, before they went shopping, took a look in the medicine cabinet to see what she uses already.
So ladies, for a small fee, I will be your eyes and ears. And you can bust your husband. Cause why not?
(Men, for a slightly bigger fee, I will keep my mouth shut. For an even bigger fee, I will divulge how much money your wives _actually_ spend at that store during their regular shopping. It's kind of ridiculous.)

It's 3:08 and I'm Wide Awake
You know that game Whack-A-Mole?
I'm the mole the last couple weeks. I'm trying not to be, I've even been determined not to be smacked around.
Something happens, something bad, something that gets me down. I analyze it and see that it's just life; bad things happen and you go on. So I move on, feeling hopeful, determined to move through it, more excited about life and WHACK!--something else lands a blow.
Again, I tell myself, that's life. Life is hard. For everyone. So I compose myself, try harder this time, feel even more hopeful, think "hey, I'm gonna do well from here on out" WHACK!
etc.
etc.
etc.
It gets tiresome, being the mole.
I'm thinking of what I'd rather be, and for some reason the first thing that comes to mind is one of those springy snakes that go in the fake can of peanuts. You approach it, thinking it's something normal and kinda boring, and ZOING! You get a surprise which later, after you've thought about it, you laugh at. I want to be that now please.

Where Have All the Good Friends Gone?
I was looking through old Facebook photos tonight and I realized something: I miss having friends.
It appears I used to have...you know...friends. Or at least friends-in-law, meaning people who were friends with my like two friends who came over all the dang time so it felt like I had friends too. But still. Where are you guys? I miss you?
Oh that wasn't a question.
(*disclaimer: if we are currently friends and hang out, I don't mean to discount you. I'm only talking to the ones I don't see anymore. Don't be mad.)

Attention Ignorant Softheads:
Being female is NOT a "persuasion." The word "persuasion" has to do with deeply held convictions or beliefs.
Being genetically a female is not an opinion. At least not when you describe women as being of the "female persuasion." So don't do it. It's just gone too far.
Everything is adding up and I had to subtract this one thing.

Tomorrow or now
Some people remain actual friends.
Quote from dinner:
Me: "What is _____ doing lately?"
Other: "Mmm, nothing. Sleeping around. The house."
Quote from dinner:
Me: "What is _____ doing lately?"
Other: "Mmm, nothing. Sleeping around. The house."
Sleep comes in feast or famine. Right now, the latter.
I've been super happy lately. Except not. My mom asked me once why I don't tell her when there's something wrong. She doesn't ask the right questions. Or at the right time. Not her fault. Mine. When I act happiest is often when I'm very much not. Why would anyone do that?
So what is the point? Why am I saying this? Does it need a point? Sympathy. Answers. Human connection?
No. I only want to see what frustration looks like on a screen.
There's a something just out of my reach that I want; it's been just out of my reach for a very long time. I've been trying to figure out how to get at it. And for the life of me I just can't. And life passes me by.
All I'm saying is I (try to) accept that life is hard. But right now it's just so so frustrating. And I'm tired. I'm tired, I'm tired, I'm tired.
So negative. I'll post something positive tomorrow.
Maybe.

Fail Blog
It's one thing to hear I didn't get the job, but did they have to point out that I came in last place?
A Call for Reality
Why won't I think of anything to say.
Self-improvement is a thing for me right now. I said it aloud the other day and it was only then I realized it: by saying there's too much hypocrisy, I was myself guilty of it. It's got me internal. In most aspects of my life, I complain. Mostly I complain about myself.
That makes it okay, yeah? Well it gets dull. It makes life dull, and I want a story to tell.
There's a lot of opposition in me, which usually makes for good writing, but I don't know how to say it. But I like you. And I'm gonna try to be nicer.
I get most dissatisfied at night. Old habits. These habits die or die hard but come back again and another again. Bleh.
It's not night. It's one in the afternoon.

Grump
For the first time this semester, I'm in the secret lab. I have it all to myself and I can play whatever music I want.
But.
The computers in this lab don't have the software I need to do an assignment. That means I have to go down to the Common Knowledge lab. That means people.
Ew.

Guess you can say I'm not average
The average American gains about seven pounds between Thanksgiving and New Year. I made a goal around the end of November to make myself "unaverage." I didn't think it was too lofty a goal, and I was pretty sure I'd be able to do it. How did I do? Well...
Goal: Don't gain any weight during the holidays. Just maintain my weight.
January 3, 2009: Gained 10 pounds
This is why I don't make goals.

I mean to say
I'm really filled with love right now. I've been hanging out with some really cool people the past few days and they made me realize that my friends and family and stuff are just really really great. They made my birthday really cool too, just by being thoughtful.
On top of that, I'm at this really cool coffee shop where there are really nice people, and I'm drinking the best steamer of my life. I feel like I fit in here. Even though I don't drink coffee. Go figure. This is my kind of day.
I'm researching Jeff Buckley, and how the courts deal with mentally retarded people (two unrelated subjects--they're for completely different papers).
I'm not even trying to use fancy words or even make it sound like I'm smart. I'm just saying.

My sister tagged me for this thing that means I have to share the fourth picture from the fourth album in my iPhoto and tell you about it. For some reason I feel obligated....Also, the fourth album in my iPhoto only has one picture in it (?) so I did it from one before or one after or something. Here you go.

This is a contraband kitten I lived with in the attic for the better part of a semester. Don't let the peaceful sleeping kitten thing fool you. He was the spawn of Satan. No one likes him. We later gave him to a family and he ran away and hopefully got run over by a car.

I tried blogging a couple times but nothing worked. I'm tired of not knowing where I stand in other people's lives. I wanna get out of here, do something that matters. I know you've all heard most of this before, but I'm just emptying the brain. Oy.

I set out fully intending to pay attention to class today. That one hundred percent did not happen. I do not know what she is talking about, nor do I know how she is doing the things she is demonstrating up front. I hate this class. I hate class. I hate having class. Wait, I don't have class. Ha.
Not funny.
My email is putting up advertisements for Dr. Pepper. Why does it think I need those. I already know how great Dr. Pepper is.
I made Pomegranate iced tea this morning. It was gross, I think cause I added too much water to it. I didn't get time to fix it, cause I was whisked away to campus. Too bad. Maybe it'll still be there when I get home so I can make it yummy again.
My roommate was super mean to me in my dream last night. One thing she said to me was that when I tell her my problems it ruins her whole day. She would never say that in real life. What does my brain think
There's an album on facebook right now that makes my life 4 times better

Never ceases to amaze me
This is an excerpt from an exchange I overheard the other day. Names will be omitted to protect the guilty, and also cause I don't remember the name of one of the girls.
Girl one: It's Ramadan right now, did you know that?
Girl two: It's what?
Girl one: Ramadan. Do you know what that is?
Girl two: No, what is it?
Girl one: It's, like, the Jewish version of Lent.
Uhh, really?
How do these people survive?

Why I Got What I Got on Netflix
Roger Ebert said that no one can call themselves a true Beatles fan unless they've seen the movie "Help". I resent him for saying that. I'll resent him for saying that until I've seen the movie. Then I'll agree with him.
Anyone else who is petty enough to agree with me and who would like to see the movie should let me know and we'll schedule a viewing. Tonight or tomorrow night. Or possibly the next night.

Not Good
I'm not going to fall asleep anytime soon. When this happens I always start listening to the playlist on my iTunes that I'm not allowed to listen to. It's full of depressing songs but I'm only up and listening to them cause I'm depressed already and can't sleep, so why not just take it a step further. One person whose really sad songs make me the saddest is Johnny Cash. Is that weird? He doesn't have much of a voice.
My brain won't turn off or at least let slightly more sane Caitie control it. Ohhhh I'm ready for this to be over.

Jails
It's three a.m. now and the cops just left.
I was awoken a little over an hour ago by my roommate Allison saying "Amy! Wake up! There's a guy in our garage!" We have a detached garage that's about 3 feet behind Allison's room. She was up, and she heard movement in there so she turned off her light and could see a guy moving around in there with a cell phone as a light. I heard Allison call 911 and tell the dispatcher that we had an intruder and that she could see him in there still, so they sent the cops over. They got here fast--I saw a cop car on the street north of us in no time. By this time, I was peeking out my blinds and saw a guy stroll right past my window and go down the stairs to an apartment in the house next door (to the north of our house, and my room is on the north side of the house). So Bad Guy went down there, and then came back out and started coming back up the stairs. That's when I realized there wasn't just one cop; about five of them triangulated (I know, you can't triangulate with five) and I couldn't help thinking about the lions taking down the zebra. I found myself going "get him get him!" And they did. They shouted "GET UP HERE! GET UP HERE! GET DOWN ON THE GROUND!!!" He resisted, but they got him down on the ground.
At this point, little Hillery came upstairs, terrified and having no idea what was going on, so we filled her in and we all watched the show from our beds in mine and Amy's room. Then Amy and Allison had to go fill out police reports, blah blah blah...Anyway, the cop told us that they got the guy on counts of trespassing, burglary, and resisting arrest and he's going to jail tonight. He told us the guy would get a minimum of two years for all that. Amy and Allison might have to testify in court, but the cop said he was pretty sure the guy will be in jail for quite a while.
Maybe now our landlord will believe us when we say we need better safety measures instead of just saying that the cop was "trying to scare us" like he said last time. Fun times!
Can't Sleep!
I wish pillows were 33% thicker. Why don't they make thicker pillows?
Wait maybe it's just my pillows. Maybe I need new pillows.

Repercussions
Since my last post, several friends have come to me and said "You've never had stuffed crust pizza?! Oh, Caitie. Ohh, it's SO GOOD." Inevitably amended with, "oh, but it's so gross."
I'm pretty excited.

I'm trying to make myself stop and go eat something else, but the truth is I only want to eat Ben and Jerry's for lunch.
So. Take THAT, everything Mom's taught me!

The Best Overheard Phone Conversation All Day
...was spoken by a guy I was walking behind on campus. It went roughly like this:
Yeah dude, we're going out to dinner tonight. And like, you know me, man, I don't like doing boring, everyday things, like things that everybody else does, especially in the Provo scene[EXACT PHRASE]. So, like, after dinner, we're going to draw pictures of each other, and...[inaudible]...fish sticks(?)...[inaudible]...you know, just something really creative like that...yeah dude. No. Dude, where do you think I'm going tonight, dude, I'm going to dinner...
I wish I could have followed him longer to hear more, but I really had to run up to the library to blog about it before I forgot anything.

Merry friggin Christmas
I was in the kitchen.
There was a pounding on the door. I called "come in."
They didn't come in, they just started singing. Because they were carolers.
I ran and hid behind Heather's dresser as they continued to knock and wish me a merry Christmas.
I am a terrible person.

pt. 2
You know it's getting near the end of the semester when you find yourself hoping to be hit by a car so you don't have to do your final projects.
Heather already has been hit by a car. Lucky.
Amy wants to know how to break her arms.
We are in trouble.

A Wonderful Thing
Amy and I turned on the heat to our house today.
It was 55 degrees in our house at the warmest part of the day. We figured it was time.

My eyes are cold.
Also I think I sprayed straightening spray in one of them. I'm convinced the two events are unrelated though.

So you like John Daker?
Meet his friends. First is Pearl Gross, with bonus material: stand-up comedy
A stolen question
Would you rather be ridiculously good at one thing or mediocre at many things?
When asked this question, I said I would want to be really good at one thing if that thing were learning how to do things really well. Friend said that didn't count.
So you can't use that one.
